Gujarat Congress in the state has said that the Covdi19 infection in the state had begun spreading with the organisation of the ‘Namaste Trump’ event in Ahmedabad.
Gujarat Congress chief Amit Chavda said that the Donald Trump Welcome Committee and the Gujarat Cricket Association should be probed for their role. The event was held at the Motera stadium in the city. “The government knew of the Covdi19 pandemic in the first week of January and how serious the situation was. Yet it didn’t bother to take precautionary measures,” said Chavda.
He said the World Health Organisation (WHO) had warned of human to human transmission of the disease but still the government ignored the warning and organised the Namaste Trump event in which lakhs of people came together at the same place. “The spread of corona began from the event,” said Chavda.
Gujarat has recorded 6,245 cases at the last count and 367 deaths, upto Tuesday evening. It ranks second in the country in number of cases and deaths only behind Maharashtra. Ahmedabad where the Namaste Trump event was organised had 4,425 cases and 273 deaths.
