Ahmedabad: Bollywood actor Sonu Sood, who has landed in controversy in a case of alleged tax evasion to the tune of Rs 20 crore, was reportedly in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. According to reports, he held closed-door meetings with AAP leaders in Ahmedabad.
A few industrialists and businessmen, too, were believed to be present for the meeting. Sources said that it was a private meeting.
It may be recalled that the AAP government in Delhi has roped in Sonu Sood as the brand ambassador for its ‘Desk ke Mentors’ campaign.
The actor is said to have evinced interest in working in Gujarat as well.
A few days ago, the Income Tax department had said that Sonu Sood was involved in tax evasion to the tune of Rs 20 crore. The department had carried out raids at the actor’s properties in Mumbai, including his residence and office.
According to the department, Sonu Sood’s non-profit organization also raised Rs 2.1 crore in foreign donations through a crowd-funding platform. This collection was in violation of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act.
In a statement later, the actor said that every rupee of his foundation was waiting to reach the needy.
