Personal enmity has emerged as the cause for an attack on a Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) staff worker.
The attack on the SMC worker gained prominence after a video of it went viral
A sanitation worker of SMC was attacked early morning on Monday in the Pandesara area of Surat.
Preliminary probe revealed that the accused’s mother had filed a complaint of eve-teasing against the accused.
It has also emerged that the victim had earlier called police complaining about the accused but later a compromise was reached.
Gavlesh Bhagat, a resident of Nanpura and a sanitation worker with SMC was attacked by two people on a bike.
He was at his workplace, cleaning an area near Sarvoday Nagar Society when two people attacked him with sharp weapons.
As a crowd gathered, the attackers dumped their vehicle and the weapon and escaped from the place.
Bhagat is under treatment at a private hospital where his condition is critical.
A video of the attack went viral and netizens questioned the law and order in the city.
In the video, Bhagat is seen shouting for help but to no avail.
Two youths finally came forward to help but the attackers repelled them by threatening them too.
Cops took the victim to a hospital eventually.
What cops say about SMC worker attack
Additional police commissioner HR Muliyana said that one Nehal Chauhan and his friend Sunny were behind the attack.
Both the attackers knew the victim and lived in the same area as the latter.
Nehal’s mother had filed a complaint of eve-teasing against Bhagat during the lockdown.
Both had given cross complaints against each other in the matter.
It is suspected that Nehal with the help of his friend attacked Bhagat to settle the score.
Police are still on the hunt for Nehal and his friend.
