New Delhi: Six BJP MPs gave notice in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday demanding strict action against those protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) . They say that such demonstrations against the law passed by Parliament are illegal. There have been agitations against citizenship law in different parts of the country for almost two months. Shaheen Bagh is the face of this movement in Delhi. But now six BJP MPs have given notice to the Chairman of Rajya Sabha, demanding a ban on these demonstrations.
BJP MP RK Sinha told TV channel NDTV, “Demonstrations against CAA are fatal to democracy. How can there be a protest on the streets against a law passed in Parliament. We have demanded a discussion on this in the Rajya Sabha.” However, the opposition is reminding that there is a judicial review of the law made by Parliament. The CAA case is also in the Supreme Court. In such a situation, the common people have the right to protest.
While Parliament has the right to make laws, ordinary citizens also have the right to protest in democracy. The right criterion for assessing any movement in a democracy can be what its format is. Be aware that there has been a sit-in protest against the CAA in Shaheen Bagh area of Delhi for a long time. During this time, incidents of firing have also been seen there. The government is calling it the conspiracy of Aam Aadmi Party, while Aam Aadmi Party seems to be avoiding saying anything on this issue.
