Singer KK dies after concert in Kolkata

  • He collapsed backstage after complaining of uneasiness


Kolkata: Popular singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, or KK as he was known, passed away late on Tuesday night. He complained of uneasiness and collapsed backstage after a concert at a hotel. He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. KK was 53 and is survived by wife and two children.

The singer is suspected to have suffered a cardiac arrest; however, the exact cause will be ascertained through an autopsy.

He was giving a live performance at Nazrul Mancha in South Kolkata. His last post on Instagram was a photo from his performance there.

KK launched his debut album Pal in 1999, which received critical acclaim. He had a phenomenal career as a Bollywood singer, having recorded a number of popular songs like ‘Tadap Tadap ke’ from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, ‘Khuda jaane’ from Bachna ae Haseeno,  ‘Kya mujhe pyar hai’ from Woh Lamhe and several others.


Fans in grief

His sudden death has left many across the country shocked. Celebrities from the entertainment industry, politicians and fans expressed grief over his demise.

“Saddened by the untimely demise of noted singer Krishnakumar Kunnath popularly known as KK. His songs reflected a wide range of emotions as struck a chord with people of all age groups. We will always remember him through his songs,” tweeted PM Narendra Modi.
