Chandigarh: Former Punjab Congress president Navjyot Singh Sidhu continues to ruffle feathers within his own party.
On Thursday, he showered praises on new Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, saying the latter has ushered in “a new anti-Mafia era” in the state.
“The happiest man is the one from whom no one expects … Bhagwant Mann unfurls a new anti – Mafia era in Punjab with a mountain of expectations …hope he rises to the occasion , brings back Punjab on the revival path with pro – people policies… best always”, he tweeted.
Shortly after Congress’s loss to Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab Assembly elections, Sidhu had praised the people of the state for their “excellent decision” to bring in change. This had not gone down well with the party leadership.
The Grand Old Party could win just 18 out of 117 seats in Punjab. After the dismal performance in the five states, Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi had asked for the resignation of all the party presidents of these states, including Sidhu.
The cricketer-turned-politician sent his resignation to her on Wednesday.
He himself had lost from Amritsar east. Then CM Charanjit Singh lost on both the seats he had contested from.
