After churning for four consecutive days the Congress high command has taken a decision regarding the Chief Minister in Karnataka. Siddaramaiah will be the next Chief Minister of Karnataka and DK Shivakumar will take oath as the Deputy Chief Minister. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has reached a consensus on government formation in Karnataka. The swearing-in ceremony will take place on May 20 at 12.30 pm in Bengaluru.

A meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) has been called in Bengaluru today (May 18) at 7 pm. Central observers of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) have been asked to reach Bengaluru for the CLP meeting. Earlier on Wednesday, Congress’ Karnataka in-charge Randeep Surjewala had said that the next chief minister would be decided today or tomorrow and a new cabinet would be formed within 72 hours.
The series of meetings of the contenders for the post of Chief Minister with the Congress high command continued in Delhi on Wednesday as well. Several rounds of discussion took place between Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi. DK Shivkumar was also called to reach to a consensus in the meeting.
Reports said the grand old party has decided on a rotational tenure of two-and-a-half years each for both the leaders, however, there is no confirmation on this.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar along with the party’s state in-charge Randeep Surjewala held a breakfast meeting with the party’s general secretary-organisation KC Venugopal earlier today. DK Shivakumar, on being named the new Karnataka Deputy CM, when he arrived at the residence of party leader KC Venugopal in Delhi, said, “The party high command has taken a decision…”
The Congress party emerged as the single largest party in Karnataka after witnessed a big win in the May 10 assembly election, securing 135 seats and giving the state a decisive mandate.
