Mumbai: The Hanuman Chalisa row in Maharashtra gained momentum on Saturday with Shiv Sena workers reaching the house of Amravati MP Navneet Rana and her MLA husband Ravi Rana. They protested against the couple for the latter’s plans to recite Hanuman Chalisa outside ‘Matoshree’, the residence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, at 9 am on Saturday.

The protesters also broke the security barricades outside the house in Khar and attempted to enter.

The Shiv Sena workers threatened the Ranas with dire consequences if they went ahead with the plan. According to them, the couple has challenged the law-and-order situation in the state at behest of someone.

The MP had said that Uddhav was at his post because of the Hindutva ideology, but had left it now.

“Amravati MP Navneet Rana and her husband want to tarnish the state government’s image and spoil the atmosphere. What’s the need to chant Hanuman Chalisa outside ‘Matoshree’, they can do it in their home. They are doing this at behest of somebody,” Maharashtra Home min Dilip Walse Patil was quoted as saying by ANI.

On Friday, the Mumbai police had issued a notice to them following the announcement of their plan to recite Hanuman Chalisa outside Matoshree.

In response to the “heckling” by Shiv Sena workers, Navneet Ran reiterated that they would go ahead with their plan.
