Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Monday took a dig at Union home minister Amit Shah for choosing a private hospital for COVID-19 treatment rather than a government hospital. Shashi Tharoor said, “Public institutions need the patronage of the powerful if they are to inspire public confidence.”
Shashi Tharoor reacting to a tweet on AIIMS, New Delhi, said: “Wonder why our Home Minister, when ill, chose not to go to AIIMS but to a private hospital in a neighbouring state. Public institutions need the patronage of the powerful if they are to inspire public confidence.”

Amit Shah admitted in Medanta Hospital
Notably, Amit Shah on Sunday tested positive for COVID-19 and was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon. Shah, 55, said his health was fine, but he is getting admitted to a hospital on the advice of his doctors. He requested people who have come in contact with him in the recent past to self-isolate and get themselves tested.
Two other CMs admitted in private hospital
Meanwhile, two other chief ministers of BJP-ruled states who have tested positive for coronavirus have got admitted in private hospitals. Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has got admitted in a private hospital in Bengaluru. Similarly, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has got admitted in a private hospital in Bhopal.
While Yediyurappa, 77, has got admitted in Bengaluru’s Manipal Hospital, Chouhan has got admitted in Bhopal’s Chirayu Hospital.
Ministers under quarantine
Many BJP leaders who were had come in contact with Amit Shah have gone into self-isolation. Union law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Union environment minister Babul Supriyo, who had come in contact with Shah, have gone into home isolation.
Also, Union minister Gajendra Shekhawat has also gone into self-isolation. He has given his sample along with his family members for the COVID-19 test.
This apart, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar and a few Bengal BJP leaders have gone into home quarantine. They had met the Union home minister in the past fortnight.
