New Delhi: Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar mer Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Saturday at the latter’s residence. The meeting, coming just two days ahead of the monsoon session of the Parliament, went on for nearly 50 minutes.
Sharad Pawar has been camping in Delhi for past two days. Piyush Goyal reportedly paid him a courtesy call after being named the Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha.
Pawar also met Defence minister Rajnath Singh, NCP leader Nawab Malik was quoted as saying.
Mystery shrouds this meeting, for neither of the leader has talked about it later.
Last month, Maharashtra Chief Minsiter Uddhav Thackeray had met PM Modi to discuss issues of the state. This was his second visit since taking over as CM.
Malik refuted claims that Pawar also met Opposition leaders in Maharashtra assembly. Sharad Pawar’s visit also comes amid an increasing crackdown on NCP leaders by the Enforcement Directorate. Earlier it was Anil Deshmukh, then Ekhanth Khadse.
Khadse had been facing probe since December last year, which was two months after he left BJP and joined NCP in October. He was questioned in an alleged money-laundering case. His son-in-law Girish Choudhary was arrested in the same case. Khadse had called the action politically motivated.
On Friday, ED attached assets worth Rs 4.2 crore owned by Deshmukh and his family with regards to an alleged money laundering case.
