Shaheen Bagh: No Solution Found Even After the Fourth Round of Mediation

New Delhi: The interlocutor Sadhana Ramachandran, appointed by the Supreme Court to mediate with the protesters of Shaheen Bagh, reached the talks on Saturday but the fourth round of talks did not yield any result. Negotiator Sadhana spoke on Saturday against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of citizens (NRC) on the issue of opening the road to protesters in Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh. The protesters made several demands in front of the negotiator.

What happened on the fourth day?

Sadhana Ramachandran arrived at Shaheen Bagh on the fourth day after talking for three days and spoke to the protesting women. “We are not saying that Shaheen Bagh should dismantle. Let’s get that very clear. Shaheen Bagh kayam rahe,” Sadhana Ramachandran told the Shaheen protesters on Saturday. “We are here to talk about roads and let’s stick to it,” Sadhana said.

On this, Sadhana said that we will be happy with this? Find a beautiful place in Shaheen Bagh, build a beautiful garden and have a Protest there. Do you like this idea? On this, all the women refused. Talking to the protesters at Shaheen Bagh, Sadhana said that she never asked the Protesters to go to the park.

Demands of the protesters

The protesters demanded that ”We want security and the Supreme should give an order on the same. We want the cases against people of Shaheen Bagh and Jamia to be taken back. A grandmother in Shaheen Bagh said that when the CAA is withdrawn, the road will be empty or else it will not happen. Another woman said that if half the road opens, then safety and aluminum sheets are needed. They said that the Supreme Court should take responsibility for the security of the protesters, not the police. The protesters said that Smriti Irani commented on us that ‘the women of Shaheen Bagh are not worth negotiating’. Action should be taken against those who have spoken wrong against Shaheen Bagh.

Demonstrators want written assurance

Earlier, the issue of security has been important in the talks between the negotiators and protesters in Shaheen Bagh on Friday, and when talk was made about security, the protesters said that Delhi Police should give assurance in writing. They said that we are not confident about security and if some incident happens, from the commissioner to the beat constable be held responsible and sacked. It is known that there has been a sit-in demonstration against the CAA for the last two months in Shaheen Bagh, due to which people are facing problems. The Supreme Court has appointed negotiators to resolve this issue.
