Several towns and areas in Gujarat are entering into voluntary lockdown to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Gujarat has been consistently recording a surge in COVID-19 cases with the state seeing over 1300 cases per day for the last fortnight alone.
Residents of certain pockets in Rajkot, Khedbrahma and Junagadh are among those who have entered into voluntary lockdown.
Places that are in a lockdown
The traders in Khedbrahma of Sabarkantha have decided to voluntarily enter into lockdown from September 14 to 21. The Soni Bazaar in Rajkot has also announced a lockdown for a week up to September 19. The bazaar in Manavadar will also be shut down for a week in Junagadh.
In Khedbrahma shops selling essential commodities will be available from 8 am to 11 am. Milk parlours, medical shops, hospitals and government offices will remain open. The municipality also met various traders before urging them for the voluntary lockdown. Handcart sellers have also been asked not to sell their wares.
In Danapith in Rajkot, shops will be open from 8 am to 3 pm only. The Soni Bazaar will, however, see a complete shutdown. The jewellers association decided after several jewellers succumbed to the illness in Rajkot.
A 12-day lockdown has also been announced in Mangrol taluka of Surat after the gram panchayat saw a constant rise in cases. The bazaar will be open from 7 am to 11 am only but milk parlour and medical stores will remain open. All religious places will also remain closed.
COVID-19 in Gujarat
Gujarat has reported 1,326 fresh cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours ending 5 pm on Sunday. The addition of the fresh cases has taken Gujarat’s total tally to 1,13,662.
Fifteen deaths were reported in the state in the past 24 hours. The fresh fatalities have taken Gujarat’s COVID-19 related death toll to 3,213. While four deaths have been reported from Ahmedabad, six deaths have been reported from Surat. Two deaths have been reported from Vadodara. The districts of Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Bharuch have reported one death each.
