A man wanted for several murders and on the run for close to nine years was finally nabbed by the Gujarat ATS on Thursday. Aslam alias Aman Abdul Karim Shaikh, an alleged serial killer wanted for five murders, was nabbed from Surat’s Vesu area.
Police said Aslam managed to remain free for long as he had assumed the identity of one Lala Kamlesh Patel and had even married a nurse and had three children with her. He worked as a ward boy in the same private hospital where his wife worked as a nurse. Police said that Aslam belonged to a well-to-do family but fell into bad company. He later joined a gang that would kill tractor drivers and sell off their vehicles elsewhere.
Aslasm’s name first surfaced in a double murder in 2008 in which a driver and his acocmplice were beaten and thrown into the river aftery tying their limbs. The gang then sold off the tractor that belonged to the driver. The gang would then go on to murder four other people all in a similar fashion. The modus operandi was to target tractor drivers and then sell off their vehicles. They committed similar murders in Dehgam, Modasa, and Chhota Udepur. Apart from five murders Aslam is wanted in the theft of 10 tractors, 12 trolleys and one motorcycle, police said.
