Mumbai: The benchmark indices of the domestic stock market opened on a strong note on Wednesday, with Sensex crossing the mark of 56,000 points for the first time.
At 9.26 am, the Sensex gained 294 points, reaching 56,086.50 points. Banks and financial service stocks led the gains. Bajaj UltraTech Cement and Bajaj Finance were the top gainers while HDFC Bank and Apollo Hospitals remained the most active stocks in the morning.
Nifty 50 too was trading at all-time high, nearing 16,700
Rupee has remained in a range of 74.10 to 74.40 against the US dollar. It gained 5 paise in early trading.
Gold prices rise
The prices of the bullion saw an increase on Wednesday, reflecting global trends amid the rising concern over the spread of the Delta variant of coronavirus. The spread has made gold more appealing in comparison to riskier assets.
The gold rate of Rs 47,440 on Wednesday is higher than the week’s average of Rs 47,080 and higher than Tuesday’s value of Rs 47,430
