Sensex crosses 60,000 mark for the first time


Mumbai: Friday was a historic day for the domestic stock xmarket, with Sensex crossing the mark of 60,000 for the first time in its history.

Nifty was around 17,900.

The BSE benchmark climbed 359 points on Friday to touch 60,245 in the opening session.

Strong buying was seen in Infosys, HCL Tech, TCS, Asian Paints, HDFC Bank, Maruti were trading high in early trades on Friday.

The Sensex leap has been sensational, especially over the past few months, taking less than a year to go from 50,000 to 60,000.

On Thursday, it had made its biggest gain of 958 points in four months.


Rupee opens lower

The Indian rupee opened at 73.77 per dollar on Friday, lower than 73.64 at the time of closing on the previous day.
