Senior NCP Leader DP Tripathi Passes Away at 67 After Prolonged Illness

Senior Nationalist Congress Party leader and former MP, DP Tripathi died at the age of 67 after a long illness in Delhi. He was battling with the cancer. Born in Sultanpur, UP, Tripathi has been the president of Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union. He started his political innings with the Congress and was considered among those close to former PM Rajiv Gandhi. But in 1999, he left Congress to join NCP in protest against Sonia Gandhi.

NCP leader Supriya Sule tweeted condolences on the death of DP Tripathi. She wrote, “Deeply Saddened to hear about the demise of Shri.D.P Tripathi Ji. He was the General Secretary of @NCPspeaks, and a guide and mentor to all of us. We will miss his wise counsel and guidance which he had given us from the day NCP was established.”

She further tweeted and wrote, “May he rest in peace. My thoughts and prayers with his family members. Heartfelt Condolences”.

External Affairs Minister Dr S.Jaishankar tweeted, “Deeply grieved to learn of the passing away of DP Tripathi. Since 1973, when we joined JNU, have discussed and debated the world with him. Always open-minded and pragmatic. Will miss him very much.”
