New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday ordered the transfer of the civil suit related to the Gyanvapi Masjid in Varanasi to the Varanasi district court.
“Having regards to the complexities involved in civil suit and the sensitivity, we are of the view that the suit before the Judge, Varanasi, should be tried before a senior and experience judicial office of UP Higher Judicial Service,” the Apex court observed.
“We accordingly order and direct that the civil suit before the Civil Judge Senior Division Varanasi shall stand transferred to the District Judge Varanasi and all interlocutory applications shall stand transferred,” it added.
The court was hearing a petition challenging the videography at the Gyanvapi Masjid that concluded on Monday.
A report was submitted to the Varanasi court, but the SC had on Thursday directed the latter to refrain from passing any order as it (SC) was hearing the petition.
While ordering the transfer of the case, the SC also extended the interim order on protection of the area where a Shivling had reportedly been found.
