New Delhi: A petition was filed in the Supreme Court today against the Citizenship Amendment Act. The SC had refused the implementation of CAA and had send a notice to the central government asking for an answer. The next hearing on Act will be held on January 22.
It is stated that in these petitions, the Act which was brought by the Modi government has been shown as anti-constitutional. Applicants also include several leaders, NGOs, and senior lawyers.
The petitions filed against the Citizenship Amendment Act was heard before Chief Justice SA Bobde, Justice BR Gaye, Justice Suryakant. Applicants include Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, Tripura royal family member Pradyot Kishore Deb Berman, Asaduddin Owaisi, Mahua Moitra, Peace Party, MS Sharma.
It has been argued that the Act violates Articles 14,21 and 25 of the Indian Constitution.In many places of the country there was a fierce protest against citizenship Act. The protests took a violent turn in the Jamia of Delhi. In which 10 people have been arrested. On Tuesday, in Delhi Seelampur area, a violent protest took place while there was the clash between the police and the protestors. It turned into war like after the Delhi Police used batons and fired tear gas shells as some 2,000 protesters threw stones and set fire to vehicles.
