The Supreme Court on Friday granted six-week interim bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain on medical grounds a day after he was put on oxygen support and admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Lok Nayak Hospital (LNH) following a fall in a bathroom in Tihar jail.

Jain was granted bail until July 11 even as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) said it cannot trust LNH’s medical reports and that a panel of doctors from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) should examine him.
The court directed Jain against influencing witnesses, tampering with evidence, or leaving Delhi. The court also restrained Jain from talking to the media while granting him bail. It The court will hear the matter next on July 10.
Jain’s medical reports will be produced before the court on July 10. Doctors at LNH, a Delhi government facility, said Jain was put on pain medicines for temporary relief and that they were formulating a treatment plan for him.
Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, who appeared for Jain, said his client’s medical reports certified he requires immediate medical attention. Singhvi added, the former minister has lost 35 kg and is suffering with a spine problem.
Additional solicitor-general SV Raju, who appeared for ED, said LNH’s reports could be fudged.
ED said Jain withdrew a bail plea earlier when the agency asked him to be examined by doctors at AIIMS. The Enforcement Directorate arrested Jain on May 30 last year under sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Jain has been in judicial custody since June 12, 2022.
