New Delhi: The Supreme Court granted a bail plea of Congress leader and former finance minister P Chidambaram on Wednewsday. Who was implicated in INX media money laundering case lodged by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). A three-judge bench of the apex court comprising Justices R Banumathi, AS Bopanna and Hrishikesh Roy had pronounced the verdict at 10:30 am this morning.
It may be recalled that the bench, headed by Justice Bhanumati, had reserved its decision on November 28 in this regard. Chidambaram filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the Delhi High Court’s decision not to grant him bail. who is currently lodged in Tihar Jail.
It is worth mentioning that the former finance minister is currently in the custody of the ED. The ED says they can influence the case so they should not be granted bail. Chidambaram, on the other hand, argues that the agency’s allegations are baseless. They cannot finish their careers. The ED arrested him on October 16.
CBI had registered a corruption case in this regard on May 15, 2017. It was alleged that in 2007, Finance Minister P Chidambaram had misappropriated the permission of INX Media Group to receive Rs 305 crore of foreign investment through a foreign source during his tenure. After that, the ED had lodged a money laundering case.
