Saurashtra continues to face rain fury, cattle washed away in Rajkot


The incessant rains in Saurashtra, particularly in Rajkot resulted in extreme flooding in the district and the region. Videos of cattle being washed away have emerged. In the video, eight buffaloes are seen being washed by heavy currents on the streets of a village in Rajkot district.

Saurashtra region has been battered by rains for two days with several places recording over 10 inches of rainfall . The met department has however said that some relief is expected by Wednesday.

Earlier the department said that a low pressure area over Kutch and neighbouring regions was what had resulted in the heavy rains over the region.

In all 117 talukas of the region received substantial rain with Kalavad in Jamnagar recording 18 inches of rainfall while Jamnagar, Khambaliya, Pardi and Lalpur received 9 inches of rainfall each. The other places that received substantial rains included Dhrol taluka and Jodiya which recorded 8 inches of rainfall each. Seven talukas received over four inches of rainfall including Gandhidham, Rapar and Kodinar. 15 talukas recorded over 2 inches of rainfall while the rest 49 recorded over 1 inches.
