Saurashtra continues to battle rain fury, bridge collapses in Junagadh

Several regions of Saurashtra faced a flood like situation on Monday, a day after Khambhalia taluka in Devbhoomi Dwarka district received 17 inches of rainfall. The heavy rains continued on Monday too disrupting life in the region and forcing a team of the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) to be deployed there.

A 30-year-old bridge over a river in Junagadh district also reportedly caved-in on Monday as rains continued to lash the district. Officials said the bridge was old and heavy vehicles were prohibited from plying on it. A warning sign was also placed near it and no one was injured in the incident.

The met department has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Saurashtra and North and South Gujarat in the next three days.

On Monday, Khambhalia received an additional 3 inches of rainfall upto 2 pm. Kalavad in Jamnagar received 6 inches rainfall upto 2 pm while Rajkot got 3 inches of rainfall.

Rivers in the region were overflowing and so was the Droneshwar dam in Gir Somnath.
