- The prime minister also did bhoomi poojan for Sardardham Phase-II girls’ hostel via video-conferencing
Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated Sardardham Bhavan, a state-of-the-art hostel facility for boys and girls from rural areas, in Ahmedabad. The inauguration was done via video-conferencing at 11 am on Saturday.
The complex, which has been developed by the Patidar Samaj, will provide training and accommodation to students at reasonable cost.
PM Modi also did the ‘bhoomi poojan’ for Sardardham Phase-II Kanya Chhatralaya (girls’ hostel).
He called it a happy coincidence that the Sardardham Bhavan was inaugurated during Ganesh festival, pointing out that traditionally Lord Ganesha is invoked
every time a new work or project is taken up.
He lauded the efforts of the Patidar Samaj in setting up such a facility for the youth.
“The date on which Sardar Dham has been inaugurated is important, and so is the message related with it,” said Modi. “Today is 9/11, the date in world history that is known for attack on humanity,” he added, referring to the terrorist attack at the World Trade Centre in the US on September 11, 2001.
“Another important event on this date was in 1893 in Chicago where the World Parliament of Religions was held. On that platform, Swami Vivekananda introduced the world to the values of India,” he said.
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Deputy CM Nitin Patel, as well as many other leaders attended the event.
On the occasion, he also announced the formation of Subramania Bharti Chair on Tamil Studies in Faculty of Arts at the Banaras Hindu University to commemorate the death anniversary of poet and freedom fighter Subramania Bharti
Earlier, in a release, the PMO had said, “Sardardham has been working towards educational & social transformation, upliftment of weaker sections of society and providing employment opportunities to the youth. Set up in Ahmedabad, the Sardardham Bhavan includes state-of-the-art facilities for students, with modern amenities. The Kanya Chhatralaya will be a hostel facility for 2000 girls irrespective of economic criteria.”
