Sanjeev Kapoor, World Central Kitchen starts free meals for COVID warriors in Ahmedabad Civil

With the availability of quality food for COVID warriors being a major issue, the World Central Kitchen in association with famous chef Sanjeev Kapoor has started delivering sumptuous meals to healthcare workers on COVID duty at the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. The organisation is providing three meals—breakfast, lunch and dinner—to COVID warriors free of cost.

The Ahmedabad Civil Hospital on Wednesday said that Sanjeev Kapoor has become “annapoorna” for the COVID warriors serving humanity. It tweeted, “India’s celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor has started distributing free meals to COVID warriors in Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.  He has become Annapurna for Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.”

The hospital administration said that the celebrity chef has appointed 12 chefs in the city for providing three-time meals to Civil Hospital’s COVID warriors.

World Central Kitchen is a not-for-profit non-governmental organisation devoted to providing meals in the wake of natural disasters. Founded in 2010 by celebrity chef José Andrés, it caters to people in need across the globe. It has already started a similar service for hospitals in Mumbai.

Meanwhile, Sanjeev Kapoor said that the healthcare workers are working round-the-clock to take care of COVID patients and therefore, they also need timely and nutritious food so that they can work with new energy in taking care of COVID-19 infected patients.

Civil Hospital battling COVID-19 in Ahmedabad

The Civil Hospital that has been dedicatedly taking care of COVID-19 patients ever since the pandemic began in 2020 is one of the most crucial government healthcare facilities in Ahmedabad. With the surge in COVID-19 cases, the hospital is witnessing a long queue of patients waiting to get admitted for COVID treatment.

Due to the surge in cases, the healthcare staff at the hospital is working under tremendous pressure in order to save lives.

COVID-19 situation in Ahmedabad

The city has reported 1.85 lakh cases of COVID-19 till 5 pm Tuesday. Out of it 4,754 cases were reported in the last 24 hours. Multiple deaths due to COVID-19 are reported from Ahmedabad daily and so far 3,218 people have succumbed to the viral infection.
