Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Wednesday lashed out at the BJP for the Jan Ashirwad Yatra being carried out by Union ministers in several states and termed it as an invitation for the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. He also blamed the saffron party for doing it deliberately and urged it to have patience.

When asked about Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray being ranked among the top five CMs in the country in a survey conducted by a media organisation, the parliamentarian said, “The BJP is trying to discredit this opinion poll, because not a single BJP chief minister has made it to the top five in the country.”

COVID-19 situation in Maharashtra

Notably, the development comes as Maharashtra continues to remain the worst-affected state when it comes to the COVID-19 pandemic in India. The state has reported over 64 lakh cases of COVID-19 infections since the pandemic began. It also accounts for the highest number of deaths due to the viral infection, with the death toll pegged at over 1.35 lakh. According to the latest data of the Union health ministry, the state has 64,790 active cases of the virus. Maharashtra recorded 4,408 fresh infections and 116 deaths due to the viral infection in the past 24 hours.

Jan Ashirwad Yatra

Notably, newly-inducted Union ministers Bharti Pawar, Kapil Patil and Bhagwat Karad earlier this week embarked on ”Jan Ashirwad” yatras in different parts of Maharashtra to reach out to people and thank them for the BJP’s win in elections in the recent past.
