Russia: Student opens fire on campus, leaves 8 dead

Moscow: At least eight people were killed and several others injured after a student opened fire at Perm State University in Russia. The incident took place on Monday morning.

Visuals of the spot showed students jumping out of the window of a classroom while firing continued.

The attacker has reportedly been detained.

According to reports, the student reached the campus on Monday and started firing. Many students and teachers tried to hide inside the building, while a few others were seen jumping out of the windows after throwing their belongings outside in an attempt to save themselves. The BBC cited reports saying the accused had written on social media that he was acting alone.

As word spread, security officials immediately blocked all buildings and passages on the campus. There are about 10 buildings on campus.
