Kolkata: The West Bengal Assembly witnesse a major ruckus on Wednesday when MLAs of the ruling Trinamool Congress and Opposition BJP clashed in the House.

The Speaker suspended five BJP MLAs, including leader of Opposition in the Assembly Suvendu Adhikari, until further notice.

The fight reportedly began following the protests by BJP MLAs over the killings in Birbhum last week and the overall deterioration of law and order situation in West Bengal.

Both the parties blamed each other for the ruckus.

TMC MLA Asik Majumdar accused Adhikari of assaulting him, a charge the latter has denied.

Adhikari claimed they had demanded a statement from the CM as well as a discussion over the Birbhum violence in which eight persons including women and children were killed. However, that request was denied, following which they staged a protest “democratically”, Adhikari said.

At this point, TMC MLAs and security personnel allegedly attacked them, he added.
