Aaquib Chhipa, Ahmedabad: Around 46% of the sanctioned posts in various Road Transport Offices (RTO) of Ahmedabad district are lying vacant. Of this, the highest number of vacancies are at Subhash Bridge RTO in Ahmedabad city where 100 posts of the 229 sanctioned remain vacant.
This was revealed by the state in the assembly in response to a question. The data showed that 154 different posts were vacant against the sanctioned 334 posts in all the three RTOs of Ahmedabad district.
Ahmedabad district has three RTOs of which two – SubhashBridge and Vastral RTO are in Ahmedabad city, whereas the third RTO is located near Bavla.
Ahmedabad Subhash Bridge RTO has a total of 229 sanctioned strength of which only 129 have been filled. The rest of the 100 posts – including those in Class-2, 3, and 4 cadres are vacant.
In Vastral RTO against a total of 66 sanctioned strength, 32 posts are vacant as of December 31, 2020.
Bavla RTO (rural) has a total of 39 sanctioned posts, of which only 17 have been filled and 22 are vacant. In all, the three RTOs of Ahmedabad district the highest number of vacant positions are that of a junior clerk, and senior clerk. The state government said that recruitment is a continuous process and the posts that are lying vacant will be filled.
Apart from this, Gandhinagar RTO has a total sanctioned strength of 52 of which 21 are vacant as of December 31, 2020.
Fine collected at RTO
Ahmedabad district-based 3 RTOs collected a collective fine of Rs 1.10 crore and detained 733 vehicles in the last two years, as of January 31, 2021. Among this highest fine of Rs, 58.28 lakh was collected by the Subhash Bridge RTO office in Ahmedabad.
