The Sabarmati cops have nabbed an accused in a jewellery theft and the jeweller who brought the stolen jewellery from him.
The cops crawled through CCTV footage of 92 places in the city to finally get the thief’s photo. They then printed it out and released it among their informers who finally led the cops to the thief.
The thief was finally nabbed near Pramukh Bungalows in New Ranip while he was in a car.
The accused identified as Shashi Shukla, 31, a resident of Sardar Patel Society in Sabarmati is accused of stealing Rs45 lakh worth of jewellery from a shop – Payal Jewellers – in New Ranip. The accused told the cops that he did a thorough recce of the shop and kept an eye on when the owner of the shop opened it when he took a break and what time he left.
How the thief executed the theft
On January 2, he stole a bike from Ami Apartment in Ghatlodia in the city. On January 5, at around 12.45 pm kept an eye on the shop – Payal Jewellers – and when the owner locked his shop and went home for lunch he followed him.
When the jeweller parked his two-wheeler near his flat and went home, the accused stole the keys to the shop from the glove compartment of his two-wheelers. He returned to the showroom and at around 2.30 in the afternoon opened the shop and stole the cash and jewellery worth Rs45 lakh.
Some of the stolen jewellery was sold to Shubham Jewellers in Nava Wadaj. Jitendra Gehlot, 24, the owner of Shubham jewellers was also arrested.
Some of the stolen cash and jewellery were found from Shukla’s home.
Cops have recovered the stolen bike, the accused’s car, jewellery, and cash all amounting to Rs31 lakh.
