Gujarat CM announces Rs3,700 cr krushi package for monsoon affected farmers

  • 27 lakh farmers to benefit from the krushi package.
  • Those who have suffered a loss of more than 33% will get Rs10,000 per ha for an additional 2 ha land.
  • Farmers will be given Rs5,000 as relief irrespective of the size of the land.
  • 37 lakh ha in 123 taluka of 20 districts to be covered under the package.
  • Applications for the same need to be filed online from October 1 onwards.
  • Cost of application will be borne by state.
  • The beneficiary will get the amount directly credited to his account.

The Gujarat government on Monday announced Rs3700 crore package to help farmers whose Kharif crop have been damaged due to the monsoon.  Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani announced the relief package for farmers on the first day of the monsoon assembly session.

Rupani said the krushi package was necessitated after farmers suffered heavy loss due to the rains in August in the state. The government said several farmers and farmers’ organisation had made a representation about the same. Cotton, groundnut, vegetables, sesame and bajra are some of the crops that have been destroyed due to the heavy rains in August.

He said the government had extended help to farmers in over 90 talukas due to the drought in 2018-19 while in 2019-20 it announced Rs3795 crore worth of Krushi Sahay Package for the unseasonal rains and resultant destruction.  He said a survey carried out by the agriculture department has revealed that as on September 19, of the 51 lakh ha in 123 talukas that have been affected 37 lakh ha of landholders are eligible for help from the state government  under the krushi package.

What krushi package entails

The state announced the Rs3700 crore krushi package were farmers who have suffered a loss of more than 33% will be eligible for help as well as for additional 2 ha of land at Rs10,000 per ha.  Moreover, irrespective of the farm size, affected farmers will be paid a minimum of Rs5,000 as compensation by the state government under the krushi package.

Close to 27 lakh farmers are likely to benefit from the package, Rupani said.
He said apart from the districts and talukas that are eligible for the benefit, the talukas that can show there has been substantial damage to agriculture will also be considered for compensation.

Rupani said an application for the help under the package will be accepted online from October 1 onwards with no cost to the farmers.  Farmers can approach their nearest E-gram centre to get the application.

The benefits will be directly credited to the account of the beneficiary farmer.
