Rs3.80 lakh worth of counterfeit currency was deposited in various branches of 14 different banks in the city. A complaint in this connection was filed with the Special Operations Group (SOG) and investigation is on in the matter.
In all, fake currency amounting to Rs3,80,500 were deposited in the branches of HDFC, Kalupur Co-op Bank, Yes Bank, Kotak Bank, IDBI Bank, Standard Chartered, Union Bank of India, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, RBI, DCB Bank, IDFC Bank among others.
Of the total fake currency that was deposited, 112 notes were of Rs2000 denomination, while 132 notes were of Rs500 denomination.
One hundred and twenty three notes were of Rs200 denomination, 584 were of Rs100 denomination and 138 were of Rs50 denomination.
There were three notes of Rs20 denomination, two of Rs10 denomination and one note was of Rs500 denomination that is no more acceptable. In all, 1,097 notes of various denominations were deposited in the different branches of the 14 banks. Media reports said the maximum number of fake currencies were reported from ICICI, Axis and HDFC bank.
