Earlier in mid-September, the condition of BJP Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat Abhay Bhardwaj had deteriorated further. Bhardwaj had tested positive for COVID-19 and was under treatment at the Civil Hospital in Rajkot.
He was later put on a ventilator after his oxygen level dropped further.
A special team was flown to Rajkot for Abhay Bhardwaj
A special team of doctors was also sent to Rajkot to oversee Abhay Bhardwaj’s condition. He has been put under ECMO treatment. Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) therapy refers to where outside support is provided to a person’s heart and lungs to function after they are unable to do so on their own.
The special team consisted of three experts from Ahmedabad and one from Surat. A team consisting of Dr Anand Shukla, Dr Amit Patel and Dr Tushar Patel was sent to Rajkot immediately on a chartered flight by chief minister Vijay Rupani to help with Bhardwaj’s treatment.
The doctors were accompanied by education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama. Chudsamsa had at that time said that apart from a team of three doctors from Ahmedabad, the guidance of experts from AIIMS is also being taken. He said the services of Dr Samir Gami, another expert from Surat, is also being sought.
Both Abhay Bhardwaj and his son had tested positive for COVID-19.
