New Delhi: A day after being named as Congress’s star campaigner for first phase of elections in Uttar Pradesh, prominent leader RPN Singh resigned from the party to join BJP.

The move comes less than a month before Assembly elections in the state.

RPN Singh addressed his resignation letter to party president Sonia Gandhi.

Along with his resignation letter on Twitter, he wrote, “Today, at a time, we are celebrating the formation of our great Republic, I begin a new chapter in my political journey. Jai Hind”.

“I spent 32 years in one political party (Congress). But that party has not remained the same as it was before. I will work as a ‘karyakarta’ towards fulfilling PM Modi’s dreams for India,” he said on his decision to join BJP.

In a tweet, he said he was ready to contribute to nation-building under the guidance of PM Modi, JP Nadda and Amit Shah and called it a new beginning.
