New Delhi: Rohingya refugees in Delhi will get flats and police protection, Union Minister for Housing and Urban affairs Hardeep Singh Puri said on Wednesday.
“India has always welcomed those who have sought refuge in the country. In a landmark decision all #Rohingya #Refugees will be shifted to EWS flats in Bakkarwala area of Delhi. They will be provided basic amenities, UNHCR IDs & round-the-clock @DelhiPolice protection,” Puri tweeted.
According to reports, the decision was taken after a high-level meeting in Delhi, chaired by Chief Secretary of Delhi and attended by officials of Delhi government, Delhi police and Ministry of Home Affairs.
They will be provided flats in Bakkarwala village in Outer Delhi. According to officials, all 1,100 Rohingyas from Madanpur Khadar camp will be accommodated in 250 EWS category flats of New Delhi Municipal Council.
