COVID cases in Gujarat reached a whopping 4,541 cases per day in the last 24 hours while 2,280 patients were discharged during the same period. Forty two deaths due to the disease were recorded in 24 hours in the state.
Fourteen deaths each were reported from Surat Municipal Corporation and 12 from Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation limits. Four fatalities were recorded from Vadodara Municipal Corporation and three from Rajkot Municipal Corporation. Vadodara district recorded two cases and one fatality each was recorded from Bhavnagar, Chhota Udepur, Dahod, Gandhinagar Corporation, Jamnagar Corporation, Rajkot and Surat district.
The state at present has 22,692 active cases of which 187 are on ventilators. So far, the state has discharged 3,09,626 patients while the fatality stands at 4,697.
Ahmedabad recorded the highest number of per day cases with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation alone recording 1,296 cases. Surat Municipal Corporation registered 891 COVID cases. Surat district also recorded 213 cases.
Vadodara and Rajkot Corporation limits saw 256 and 340 cases respectively. State capital Gandhinagar recorded 41 new cases. The state has a recovery rate of 91.87%.
Overall COVID cases in the state have now crossed the 3.37 lakh mark while Ahmedabad has recorded over 79,000 cases so far since the pandemic began. Surat has over 72,000 cases and Vadodara over 37,000 cases.
COVID vaccination in the state
So far over 76.30 lakh, people have been given the first dose of the vaccine while over 9.84 lakh have received the second dose of vaccine. In all, over 86 lakh people have received the vaccine so far, one of the highest in the country.
In the last 24 hours, 2.24 lakh people above the age of 60 years and those above 45 years of age but suffering from serious illness were vaccinated for the first dose. 50,455 people in the age group got the second dose of vaccine today. Vaccination for those above 45 years of age has begun from April 1 onwards.
Surat Municipal Corporation saw 27,964 COVID vaccines being given in a day, the highest in Gujarat. Anand had vaccinated 18,699 people while Ahmedabad district saw 14,881 people getting the shots.
