Payal Ghosh apologises to Richa Chadha


Actor Payal Ghosh who had levelled rape allegations against filmmaker Anurag Kashyap on Wednesday tendered an unconditional apology to actor Richa Chadha.

The apology came after Richa Chadha filed a defamation suit seeking damages of Rs 1.1 crore against Payal Ghosh for passing remarks on her during a television interview.

The defamation suit came up for hearing before the Bombay High Court on Wednesday. During the hearing, the court asked Payal if she wishes to withdraw her statements against Richa.

Following this, the actor submitted to the court that she regrets her statement. In fact, her lawyer Nitin Satpute submitted that Payal has said the statements “innocently” and that she is a big follower of Richa Chadha and respects her. The lawyer also submitted that Payal regrets whatever she said and her intention was never to defame any woman.

Chadha’s lawyers Veerendra Tulzapurkar and Saveena Bedi Sachar then told the court that they are willing to accept the apology and would not claim damages.

Anurag Kashyap terms Payal’s allegations as “baseless”

Anurag Kashyap on Oct 2 claimed that he was not in India when the incident, as alleged by Payal Ghosh had happened. Anurag Kashyap said he was not in India for a month and was shooting for a film in Sri Lanka. He has also submitted documents to the police officials substantiating his claim.

Notably, Anurag Kashyap was questioned by the Versova police in connection with the rape complaint filed against him on October 2. Payal Ghosh met the Maharashtra governor to push for the filmmaker’s arrest. She has demanded a Y-Plus security cover as has been granted to actor Kangana Ranaut.

Payal Ghosh’s allegations

The 30-year-old actor on September 19 levelled sexual harassment charges against Anurag Kashyap. In a tweet, she tagged the “Gangs of Wasseypur” director while levelling the allegations. She also tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking action against the filmmaker.

She tweeted: “@anuragkashyap72 has forced himself on me and extremely badly. @PMOIndia @narendramodi ji, kindly take action and let the country see the demon behind this creative guy. I am aware that it can harm me and my security is at risk. Pls help!”

In a video released to ABN Telugu, Ghosh claimed that the incident happened in 2014-2015.

The actor, who made her Hindi debut with Rishi Kapoor-Paresh Rawal starrer “Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi”, also claimed that Kashyap boasted about his connection with megastar Amitabh Bachchan and claimed that there were other female artistes who he got intimate with.
