A special NDPS court on Wednesday granted bail to actor Rhea Chakraborty’s brother Showik Chakraborty in a drug case. The relief for Showik Chakraborty comes after around three months since his arrest in the drugs probe initiated by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in the actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case.
Notably, the anti-drugs agency had raided the accused’s house on September 4 after which he was arrested. He was charged under various sections of the NDPS Act. The charges include peddling, procuring and consuming banned drugs.
Showik Chakraborty and Sushant Singh Rajput’s house manager Samuel Miranda were arrested in September by the NCB under sections 8c, 28 and 29 of the NDPS Act.
Section 8c of the NDPS Act provides that no person shall produce, manufacture, possess, sell, purchase, transport, warehouse, use, consume, import inter-state, export inter-state, import into India, export from India or tranship any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance.
Following the arrest, the NCB claimed that Showik was a facilitator not only for Sushant but also arranged narcotics for some other Bollywood stars. The NCB said during the questioning, Showik confessed to the NCB that he used to buy drugs at Rhea’s behest.
NCB drug probe in SSR case
The NCB initiated a probe on the drug angle in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case after the Enforcement Directorate seized Rhea Chakraborty’s phone and revealed her WhatsApp chats with Shruti Modi, Jaya Saha, Samuel Miranda and Gaurav Arya, in which there was a mention of drugs.
Rhea Chakraborty’s arrest and bail
The Bombay High Court had on October 7 granted bail to Rhea Chakraborty. She was behind bars for almost a month after she was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau in connection with the drugs probe in the Sushant Singh Rajput case.
While Rhea Chakraborty was granted bail, her brother Showik had failed to get a relief from the high court. Apart from Rhea, Sushant Singh Rajput’s employees—Dipesh Sawant and Samuel Miranda—were also granted bail.
A sessions court in Mumbai on September 11 rejected the bail plea of Rhea. Apart from the actor, the bail pleas of her brother Showik and other accused in the case were also rejected.

Rhea Chakraborty had earlier filed a bail plea before a magistrate’s court immediately after her arrest. However, the plea was rejected and she was sent to Byculla Jail on September 9.
