The Bombay High Court on Wednesday granted bail to actor Rhea Chakraborty. Rhea Chakraborty was behind bars for almost a month after she was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau in connection with the drugs probe in the Sushant Singh Rajput case.
While Rhea Chakraborty has been granted bail, her brother Showik failed to get a relief from the high court. Apart from Rhea, Sushant Singh Rajput’s employees—Dipesh Sawant and Samuel Miranda—have been also granted bail.
The court, while granting bail to Rhea, imposed certain bail conditions as well. The actor has been asked to submit Rs 1 lakh as bond. She will have to mark her presence daily at a nearest police station for 10 days after her release.
This apart, she will have to hand over her passport and cannot travel without the court’s permission.
What did Rhea Chakborty’s lawyer say?
Rhea Chakraborty’s counsel Satish Maneshinde said: “We are delighted by the order. Truth and justice have prevailed and ultimately the submissions on facts and law have been accepted by Justice Sarang V Kotwal.”
“The arrest and custody of Rhea was totally unwarranted and beyond the reach of law. The hounding and witch-hunt by three central agencies, the CBI, Enforcement Directorate and the Narcotics Control Bureau should come to an end. We remain committed to truth. Satyameva Jayate,” he added.
A sessions court in Mumbai on September 11 rejected the bail plea of Rhea Chakraborty. Apart from Rhea Chakraborty, the bail pleas of her brother Showik and other accused in the case were also rejected.
The actor was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on September 8 in the drugs probe in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. NCB charged Rhea for procuring drugs for her boyfriend Sushant Singh Rajput. The agency has claimed that it has enough evidence to substantiate its claims.
Rhea Chakraborty had earlier filed a bail plea before a magistrate’s court immediately after her arrest. However, the plea was rejected and she was sent to Byculla Jail on September 9.
