Mumbai: Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty has been discharged from the obscenity-related criminal case filed against her and Hollywood actor Richard Gere in 2007.

The case pertains to Richard Gere taking Shilpa Shetty in his arms and kissing her on the cheeks on stage at an AIDS awareness event in Rajasthan in 2007.

The duo had been accused of obscenity and indecency and cases were registered against them under IPC, IT Act and Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.

In its order, the Metropolitan magistrate court at Ballard Pier noted that Shilpa Shetty seemed a victim of the act.

The actress had earlier filed a discharge plea stating that she had not protested when she was kissed by Gere which “by no stretch of imagination” made her a conspirator or perpetrator of any crime.
