A 19-year-old girl was designated as the chief minister of Uttarakhand for a day on the occasion of National Girl Child Day on Sunday. Shrishti Goswami, a resident of Haridwar became the chief minister of the state for a day.
Describing her once in a lifetime chance, Goswami, who is a student of third year BSc, said, “I still cannot believe if this is true or not. I am so overwhelmed. But at the same time, I will do my best to prove that youth can excel in administration while working for people’s welfare.”
During the day, she reviewed several government schemes and their implementation in the state. Some of the schemes she reviewed include Atal Ayushman Scheme, Smart City project, Homestay Scheme by the tourism department, and other development projects.
Goswami has been the CM of Bal Vidhan Sabha (Children’s State Assembly) since 2018. Authorities from the state government said that officials of various departments of the state government gave her a detailed presentation before she started functioning as the CM.
Proud parents of Uttarakhand CM
The development was a matter of pride for the girl’s parents. They said, “Today we feel very proud, every daughter can achieve a milestone, we just need to support them. We want to thank the government a lot for considering our daughter worthy of this.”
The teenager’s proud father Trivendra Singh Rawat said, “Never stop supporting your daughters. In today’s time, daughters can achieve everything. This should be an example for everyone. If she can achieve this milestone, every other daughter is capable of doing so. We are thankful to Trivendra Singh Rawat for giving Srishti this opportunity.”
PM Modi praises ‘Desh-ki-beti’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to Twitter on the occasion of National Girl Child Day and lauded the achievements of women in different domains. He also said that the government has taken various measures to empower women in society.
He said, “On National Girl Child Day, we salute our #DeshKiBeti and the accomplishments in various fields. The central government has undertaken many initiatives that focus on empowering the girl child, including access to education, better healthcare and improving gender sensitivity.”
“Today is also a day to specially appreciate all those working towards empowering the girl child and ensuring she leads a life of dignity and opportunity,” PM Modi said in another tweet.
