Hyderabad engineer arrested for giving rape threats to Virat Kohli’s daughter

Hyderabad/Mumbai: The cyber cell of Mumbai police arrested a 23-year-old software engineer from Hyderabad in the case of online rape threats to the nine-month-old daughter of cricketer Virat Kohli.

The accused was identified as Ramnagesh Srinivas Akubathini. According to police, he is currently unemployed. He reportedly worked for a food delivery app earlier.

Since Kohli and his actress-wife Anushka Sharma are residents of Mumbai, the police here started investigating several Twitter handles. Akubathini subsequently changed his Twitter handle to make it seem like a Pakistani user.

A special team of Mumbai police arrested him on Wednesday afternoon and took him to Mumbai.

Virat Kohli was trolled heavily after he condemned the abuse of Mohd Shami following the team’s defeat to Pakistan and called out religious discrimination.

“Attacking someone over their religion is the most pathetic thing that a human being can do. They have no understanding of how much effort we put into the field. They have no understanding of the fact that someone like Shami has won India matches in the last few years,” Virat Kohli had said.

His attacks did not go well with the trolls who gave rape threats to his nine-month-old daughter. This sparked an outrage across the nation

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) had last week taken suo motu cognizance of the threat and had issued a notice to the Delhi police. It had sought a copy of the FIR, details of the accused and action taken report.
