Ramdev poses 25 questions to IMA, pharma industry

After facing flak for his remarks on allopathy and forced to withdraw his statements due to the immense pressure created by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), yoga guru Ramdev has raked up another controversy by asking the doctors’ body and pharmaceutical companies 25 questions.

The questions were mostly related to whether allopathy offers permanent relief from diseases such as diabetes, thyroid, arthritis, asthma, colitis, etc.

Ramdev tweeted a list of questions posed by him on the letterhead of Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust. He wrote that he wants to ask these questions to the IMA and pharmaceutical companies.

Questions posed by Ramdev

The various questions posed by Ramdev included:

  • Whether allopathy offered permanent relief from hypertension (BP) and type-1 and 2 diabetes?
  • Does the pharma industry have permanent treatment for thyroid, arthritis, colitis and asthma?
  • Whether allopathy had medicines for fatty liver and liver cirrhosis?
  • What non-surgical cure the pharma industry has for heart blockage?
  • What treatment is there for cholesterol?
  • Does the pharma industry have treatment for migraine?
  • Whether allopathy had any painless cure to treat infertility as well as to reverse ageing and increase haemoglobin?

Ramdev withdraws statement

After a strongly worded two-page letter by Union health minister Harsh Vardhan, Ramdev on Sunday retracted his statements on allopathic medicine.

In a letter to the health minister, the yoga guru said, “We do not oppose modern medical science and allopathy. We believe that allopathy has shown immense progress in surgery and the lifesaving system and served humanity. My statement has been quoted as part of a WhatsApp message that I was reading during a meeting of volunteers. I am sorry if it has hurt anyone’s sentiment.”

A video had gone viral in which Ramdev was heard saying at a recent event, “Lakhs of people have died because of allopathic medicines, far more than those who died because they did not get treatment or oxygen.” He also purportedly called allopathy a “stupid and bankrupt” science.
