Ram temple trust head tests COVID-19 positive

Ayodhya’s Ram temple trust head Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, who shared the stage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Ram temple ceremony, has tested positive for COVID-19. Mahant Nritya Gopal Das is 82-years-old and shared the stage with four dignitaries at the Ram temple event on August 5.

The other dignitaries apart from PM Modi include Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, UP Governor Anandiben Patel and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.

Notably, just before the foundation stone laying ceremony, a priest and 14 policemen deployed for security at the Ram temple site had tested positive for coronavirus.

Treatment at Medanta Hospital

Mahant Nritya Gopal Das is in Mathura. As a result, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken details of the health status of Gopal Das and has spoken to DM Mathura.

CM Adityanath has also spoken to Dr Naresh Trehan of Medanta Hospital and requested for immediate medical attention for Gopal Das at the hospital, the UP CMO said.

Mahant Nritya Gopal Das is stable

“We were informed that Maharaj-ji has some fever. So, we sent a team of doctors and they investigated and gave some medicines. The fever is normal. He has mild breathlessness and we checked his oxygen level. It is saturated. There is nothing serious. We checked for coronavirus, did antigen test, and it has come positive,” Mathura district magistrate Sarvagya Ram Mishra said.

“The chief minister has directed that Maharaj-ji be shifted to the Medanta Hospital. In fact, we are getting that done as soon as possible. Maharaj-ji is stable,” he said.

Nritya Gopal Das has also been heading the Ram Janambhoomi Nyas since 2003. It is an Ayodhya-based trust run by members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) for the construction of the Ram Temple.

PM Modi laid foundation stone for Ram temple

PM Modi laid the first brick for the Ram Temple at Ayodhya at the mega ceremony last Wednesday. He returned to the holy city after 29 years to participate in the groundbreaking ceremony for the temple. It was a core promise of the ruling BJP.

Before the ceremony, many people had requested him not to attend the event amid the coronavirus pandemic. Many had said that the PM’s attendance at the event was in contravention of the constitutional oath he had taken.
