New Delhi: The festival of Ram Navami on Sunday witnessed several incidents of violence in a few states of the country.
Incidents of stone pelting at religious processions were reported from Gujarat, West Bengal, Karnataka, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh.
In Gujarat, violence was reported in Himmatnagar and Khambhat where vehicles and shops were set on fire. The body of a 65-year-old man was recovered from the place of violence, indicating that he may have died in the clashes.
In West Bengal, several persons were injured after stones were pelted at a procession in Howrah.
Mulbagal town in Karnataka reported a similar scene where attackers pelted stones at a Ram Navami procession in the evening.
In Jharkhand, besides stone pelting, shops and vehicles were set on fire by hooligans in Lohardaga.
In Madhya Pradesh, arson was reported in Khargone.
At several places, police had to fire teargas shells to control the situation.
