Raksha Shakti University will now be an institution of national importance


The Lok Sabha on Sunday passed a bill which will give Gujarat-based Raksha Shakti University the tag of an institution of national importance. Following this, the name of the varsity will also be changed.

The bill was passed by a voice vote but during a discussion, Abdul Khaliq of the Congress wondered about the need to upgrade the university.

The bill proposed to make the Rashtriya Raksha University (which is at present known as Raksha Shakti University) a multi-disciplinary institution to create new knowledge through research and collaboration with different stakeholders.

While the Raksha Shakti University is a state university, the Rashtriya Raksha University will be a central institute.
The varsity, the bill said, will help fulfil the need for a pool of trained professionals with specialised knowledge and new skill sets in various wings of policing, the criminal justice system and correctional administration.

Another Gujarat-based institute gets an upgrade too

Another institute from Gujarat will also be upgraded after a bill to establish a National Forensic Sciences University by upgrading the Gujarat Forensic Sciences University in Gujarat was passed in the Lok Sabha.

The bill was introduced in the House in March during the last session and was passed without debate. Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy moved the bill for consideration and passage.

The bill states that the university will facilitate and promote studies and research in the field of forensic science in conjunction with applied behavioural science studies, law, criminology and other allied areas.

The university will grant degrees and other academic distinctions.
