Rajya Sabha Proceedings Adjourned till 2 pm As Opposition Protests Over Delhi violence


The Speaker adjourned the Rajya Sabha proceedings till 2 p.m after the entire Opposition vociferously protested over the issue of communal violence in the national capital, with members alleging that the government slept while Delhi burnt. Congress leaders have been demanding the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah and are likely to launch a protest in Parliament over the violence that has killed over 40 people in northeast Delhi.

The AAP and CPIM MPs have already given Suspension of Business Notice in Rajya Sabha over the violence last week. Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said the party will strongly raise the issue of riot-torn Delhi and ask why the violence happened. CPI general secretary D Raja said his party will demand that Shah answer for the “inaction” of the Delhi Police, which comes under the ministry of home affairs. Opposition MPs including those belonging to the Congress, Left, TMC, SP, BSP and DMK were up on their feet shouting slogans and accused the government of failing in its duty.

Several parties including Congress had given notice of adjournment motion

Several opposition parties, including the Congress, had proposed an adjournment in the Lok Sabha to discuss the issue. The Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi sought the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah over the Delhi riots. Several other opposition parties also surrounded Shah in the violence case.

The second phase of the budget started today

The second phase of the budget session of Parliament starts today. The opposition has laid siege heavily to surround the government. Congress leaders in the Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary and K Suresh, have given notice of the adjournment motion on Delhi violence.

Opposition tries to unite and surround the government

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) protested in front of Gandhi’s statue in Parliament House to protest against the Delhi riots. Earlier, the party’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh gave notice of adjournment motion under Rule 267 in the House regarding the Delhi riots. At the same time, TMC MPs demonstrated blindfolded about the Delhi riots. MPs are protesting by wearing a black band. Several other parties served notice CPM, CPI, DMK and NCP of adjournment motion in Lok Sabha on Delhi riots.
