New Delhi: The 12 suspended Rajya Sabha MPs began their protest in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue in the Parliament premises.
The MPs were suspended by Rajya Sabha chairman Venkaiah Naidu for “indiscipline” on Monday, the first day of the ongoing Winter Session of the Parliament.
On Tuesday, Opposition parties urged Naidu to revoke the suspension order. However, he rejected the request saying that the MPs had no remorse.
Several Opposition parties walked out of the House after this.
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge has also written to Naidu to revoke the order.
Rahul Gandhi and other Opposition leaders joined the protest
“Centre has to realize that in this country other voices deserve to be heard. Parliament is for debate and discussion. You’ve to allow people to express their views, only then can you truly run a democratic Parliament,” Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said, as quoted by ANI.
