New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday apprised the Rajya Sabha of the reported accidental missile firing on March 9. The missile had landed in Pakistan’s territory. However, no damage was reported.

“I’d like to tell this House about an incident that occurred on 9th March 2022. It is related to an accidental missile release during inspection. During routine maintenance and inspection of the missile unit, around 7 pm, one missile got accidentally released,” Rajnath Singh told the House on the second day of the second part of the ongoing Budget Session in the Parliament, news agency ANI said.

“It was later known that the missile fell in Pakistan’s territory. The incident is regrettable. But it’s a relief that no losses happened. I’d like to inform the House that Govt has taken this matter very seriously & official order for high-level probe has been given,” he added.

Singh further said that the exact cause of the accidental missile firing could be known only through a probe.

“I would also like to say that in the context of this incident, standard operating procedures of operations, maintenance and inspections are also being reviewed,” he added.
