Rajasthan govt announces welfare schemes for poor

The Rajasthan government, which is facing a financial crunch due to the COVID-19 induced slowdown, has announced a slew of welfare schemes to benefit the poor.

The government has issued orders to give financial assistance of Rs 1,000 each as the second installment of compensation to 33 lakh helpless and needy families facing livelihood crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A total amount of Rs 330 crore has been released for the same on the instructions of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

The amount will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries, an official release said. With this, the government has provided financial assistance of Rs 5,500 each to these families, it said.

Financial assistance is given to poor and helpless families such as small shopkeepers, rickshaw pullers, construction workers, BPL card holders, street vendors among others, who do not get the benefit of social security schemes.

Help for students

The Gehlot government will now prepare students of the state for competitive exams. This facility will be given under the Chief Minister Anupriti Coaching Scheme. In this, apart from the coaching fees of the students, the government will also bear the cost of living and lodging. Under this scheme, financially weak students of every category will be given opportunities.

Students whose annual family income is less than Rs 8 lakh per annum will be eligible for this scheme. Any student will get the benefit of this scheme for one year only. Civil services examination conducted by Union Public Service Commission, RAS and subordinate services combined competitive examination conducted by Rajasthan Public Service Commission, Sub-Inspector and other examination above 3,600 Grade Pay or Pay Matrix Level-10, REIT, Rajasthan Employees Candidates preparing for Grade Pay-2400 or Pay-Matrix Level-5 examination conducted by the Selection Commission, Constable Examination, Engineering and Medical Entrance Examination and CLAT examination will be able to get the benefit of the scheme.

Students will be selected based on the 12th and 10th marks. The students who have to leave their home to other places for study in another city will get Rs 40,000 for food and accommodation every year for one year. Various departments will run this scheme to enable the students to get this benefit.
