Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot tests positive for COVID-19


Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his wife Sunita Gehlot have tested positive for COVID-19. The chief minister has isolated himself in his official residence in Jaipur.

Gehlot took to Twitter to inform people that he has tested positive for COVID-19. “I have tested positive for COVID-19. I do not have any symptoms of the viral infection and am feeling well. I have gone into isolation as per COVID protocol and will continue to work,” Gehlot tweeted in Hindi.

Interestingly, the chief minister has received two jabs of the COVID vaccine in February and in March. Despite immunisation, he contracted the viral infection.

Former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje’s son Dushyant Singh, who is a three-time MP from Jhalawar has also tested positive for COVID-19. BJP MLA and a member of the state finance commission Ashok Lahoti has also tested positive.

COVID-19 situation in Rajasthan

In the past 24 hours in the state 16,613 new COVID cases have been reported and 120 people died. However, the recovery rate is encouraging and in the past 24 hours, 8,303 persons recovered from COVOD-19.

So far, 5.63 lakh people have tested positive for the viral infection out of which 1.63 lakh are active cases of the virus. Over 3.96 lakh people have recovered from the viral infection and 3,926 people have succumbed to it.

The situation in major cities like Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Udaipur and Bikaner is worsening with each passing day with an acute shortage of hospital beds, oxygen and essential medications.
